GED - Test at the Library

When you’re ready to take your GED test, you can schedule to take it at the library. You will schedule your test through your GED.com account. The Dallas Public Library operates an official GED testing Center. The testing center is located on the 3rd floor of the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library


What is the GED?


Passing the GED test is one way of earning your Texas High School Equivalency Certificate. The GED is a series of four tests: Reading through Language Arts, Science, Math, and Social Studies. GED tests last anywhere from 70 minutes to 150 minutes. Tests are administered on the computer. To register to take a test, you’ll have to create an account with on GED.com.


How do I obtain a scholarship?


The Dallas Public Library proudly offers full scholarships to take the GED. Generous funding from Atmos Energy makes these scholarships possible. To qualify for a scholarship, applicants must demonstrate that they are ready to take the test and write a short essay. Please email us at  adultlearning@dallas.gov and let us know if you are interested in applying for the scholarship. The scholarships can cover the GED Ready pretest, the official GED test, and retake tests.

Earning your High School Equivalency Certificate by passing the GED tests can be a confusing process, but don’t worry, the Adult Learning team is here to help answer your questions. We’re happy to guide you through creating a GED account, registering for a test, submitting a scholarship, or finding GED classes to help you study.
