The collection of materials in Dallas History & Archives includes books, magazines, newspaper clipping, personal papers, photos, maps and audiovisual recordings that span the diverse history of Dallas, the surrounding area and Texas.

Experienced and certified researchers and archivists can help you with your research in person or by email. Email inquiries are answered as they are received as staff time permits, so please allow a few days for a response. If you need immediate assistance, please call our reference desk at 214-670-1435.
Library staff can provide research service for a fee of $20 per half hour, which includes up to four photocopies. Each patron is limited to one hour of research time and fifty photocopies per month. Patrons with a Texas address will be charged state sales tax.
Using the Archives
Secure and place all bags and personal belongings under your chair or table.
Use pencils, not pens, while in the Reading Room. We will provide, if needed.
Cell phones, laptops, and tablets may be used. Please consult with staff about the use of cameras and personal scanning devices.
All archive materials must be used in the reading room and may not be checked out.
Due to the value of some items, you may be required to view the item with a staff member present.
Available in the Reading Room:
Photocopier
KIC Scanner – scan documents which can be saved or emailed
Two microfilm computers – scan and save images from the microfilm collection
Two public computers for research and accessing library databases
Fine Books Collection
