I have a Dallas Public Library card and I want to suggest a title:

• Customer Recommendation for Books, Audiobooks on CD, DVDs, Blu-ray DVDs, and Music CDs (City of Dallas and Town of Addison residents only.)

• Customer Recommendations for eBooks and eAudiobooks:

  • Recommend a title in the Libby app using the “Notify Me” smart tag.

  • Enable Deep Search to find titles the library does not own that are available for purchase.

  • We are not able to accept recommendations for titles that are not available for purchase from OverDrive through the Libby app.

Author & Publisher Recommendations

I am an Author, Publisher, or Bookseller and I want to suggest a title:

• Authors, publishers, booksellers, and library vendors can submit book reviews, galleys, catalogs, website information, and review copies to:

• Review copies are accepted without condition as donations to the Dallas Public Library. Donated material becomes the property of the Dallas Public Library and will be evaluated based upon our collection development policy and may be added to the collection, sold, traded, discarded, or donated to another non-profit institution or library. All proceeds from the sale of donated materials benefit the Dallas Public Library.

• Criteria for consideration for inclusion in the collection include:

• Relevance to interests and needs of the community

• Current and anticipated demand

• Creative, literary, or technical quality

• Clarity, accuracy, and logic of presentation

• Permanent, current, temporary, educational, or recreational value of the resource

• Suitability of format to Library circulation and use

• Suitability of subject and style for intended audience

• Reputation and qualifications of the author, publisher, or producer, with preference generally given to titles vetted in the editing and publishing industry

• Evaluation of criticisms and reviews in professional journals and popular media

• Representation of a significant trend, genre, or culture

• Representation of diverse points of view

• Relevance to the existing collection's strengths and weaknesses

• Support of library programs and initiatives

• Budget, cost, and space considerations

• Availability of content through the internet, subscription databases, or other means

• Availability from our contracted vendors

• Works by local authors which are self-published will be considered if they fit the above criteria

• Due to the number of solicitations and donations received, the Acquisitions department cannot respond to inquiries regarding collection decisions for individual donations or recommended titles and products.

• The library purchases material through our contracted City of Dallas library material vendors and does not purchase directly from publishers, authors, or non-contracted vendors. Exceptions may be made for sole source material that is not available for sale from any other seller.
